DIY Galactica Pyramid Card Game

Pyramid Card Deck

LOS ANGELES – April 17, 2013 – Tough day? Too many messy dogfights with those frakkin' Cylons? Then it's time to kick back with your mates and enjoy a good game of Pyramid!

It's the poker-like game in the original Battlestar Galactica TV series (1978-1979) that was renamed "Triad" in the re-imagined series (2004-2009). You may also recall that the original Battlestar featured a contact sport with elements of football and basketball called Triad that was renamed "Pyramid" in the newer series. So each game shares the same name, depending on which series you're watching.

We're going with the 55-card game originally known as Pyramid, for the purposes of this post.

The good news is that graphic designer Dietrich Kerner is sharing the font for the Pyramid card game for free. Download the file and print your own hexagonal cards. Here's a description of how the game is played. And if you want to play in real time online, here's the game engine module from Vassal.

So grab a cigar, your BSG Top Gun Stein with a frosty beverage and some currency for wagering (jelly beans will do). It's time for some convivial gameplay with your fellow Viper pilots!
