Serenity 1:250 Scale Cutaway Replica Prototype
LOS ANGELES – August 21, 2013 – Firefly fans, do we have a terrific Easter egg for you: a brand-new version of Serenity with sections that open up to reveal the living areas and bridge of the iconic transport spaceship!
After launching our 1:180 scale Serenity Artisan Replica in 2009 and our 1:400 scale Serenity Little Damn Heroes Maquette in 2011, customers kept asking for more. We agreed, but thought it should be more than a bigger version of the LDH maquette (or smaller version of the Artisan replica).
That's when we decided to do something ambitious -- a 1:250 scale replica of our favorite boat where you could see inside the ship.
Our Serenity Cutaway Replica is screen accurate, created with the CG files used to make the TV series. Back when we were working on the Serenity blueprints, we discovered that the sets for the show were constructed to fit the dimensions of the ship – which is rarely the case in TV or movie spaceships.
So we shrank everything down to fit perfectly inside our 12-inch-long replica. The furnishings are tiny, some of them only a few millimeters tall. All you have to do is lift up three sections of the upper shell of the ship to reveal the bridge, forward hallway, galley and lounge area.
Extraordinary effort went into making this replica beautiful, accurate and easy to display. The removable shell pieces attach with magnets, as do the ship's two shuttles.
What you see here is a prototype and is subject to change. The base will likely change as will some of the paint details. We just want to give you a peek at what's to come!
