LOS ANGELES – May 1, 2012 – QMx Interactive Inc. announced that its Super 8® iPhone app has won in two categories for the 2012 Webby Awards: Entertainment (Handheld Devices) and Best Use of Device Camera.
Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, the Webby Awards, presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
The app – created by QMx Interactive and Bad Robot Interactive, a division of Bad Robot Productions – is a full-featured video recorder that emulates a vintage Super 8 camera on video-capable iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.
Super 8® comes with nine photorealistic lenses sporting such effects as infrared, chromatic, x-ray, fisheye and posterize. Users can overlay additional filter effects – like light leaks and vignettes – and "age" their film with a random scratch-and-dirt filter. There's even a frame-shake effect to top off the old-school feel of Super 8™- made movies.
The 99¢ app has been downloaded millions of times since launch, and has been used to produce thousands of YouTube videos by both professional and amateur filmmakers. It was named one of the Top 5 Photo & Video Apps of 2011 by Apple and won the 2012 Appy Award for Best Photography App. The app is distributed by Paramount Digital Entertainment and can be downloaded at the iTunes App Store.
