QMx to Create Collectibles for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek
LOS ANGELES – September 21, 2009 – Joining the new adventures of Capt. James T. Kirk and the starship Enterprise, Quantum Mechanix, Inc. announced that it will create several lines of collectibles based on the reimagined Star Trek.
QMx will produce studio-scale and mid-scale ship replicas, prop replicas, novelty items and animated-style maquettes from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, under license with CBS Consumer Products.
Star Trek fans got a first look at what’s ahead when QMx unveiled its 34-inch Artisan studio-scale Enterprise at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego. QMx has already started work on a studio-scale version of the U.S.S. Kelvin and plans collector-scale versions of both ships.
QMx has also produced two premium collectibles that will be bundled with the Blu-ray DVD version of Star Trek this fall: A screen-accurate set of four Starfleet Division badges cast in metal and available exclusively from Best Buy and an 8.5-inch all-metal Enterprise replica exclusively for Amazon.com.
To create animated-style maquettes for Star Trek, QMx is thrilled to be working with Mohammed Haque. Hawk, as he is known to his friends and fans, is best-known for his popular webcomic, AppleGeeks.
QMx is also developing a complete line of screen-accurate prop replicas, including the Enterprise Phaser.
Star Trek joins Serenity, the reimagined Battlestar Galactica, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe as entertainment properties licensed by QMx.
Star Trek collectibles will be available in comic, collector and specialty stores around the country, and are also available directly from QMx.
