QMx Unveils New Trekkies™ Q-Pop™ Figures

LOS ANGELES  — February 11, 2013 — Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx) is pleased to announce its line of Trekkies™ collectibles. Under license by CBS Consumer Products, the line will include high-quality PVC figures, plushes and novelties.

What makes Trekkies™ distinctive is a playful design style that highlights the fun side of the characters, props and ships made famous by Star Trek over the years. Trekkies™ will be as well crafted as they are irresistible.

QMx is also announcing its first three Trekkies™ collectibles: the new Q-Pop™ figures of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Lt. Uhura from Star Trek: The Original Series.

Q-Pop figures embrace a more whimsical style reminiscent of Japanese chibi characters, but with a distinctly American flair. Made in the same scale as QMx’s hit Little Damn Heroes® (~4.5”), Q-Pops feature word balloons with a whiteboard surface on a clear plastic post. Each Q-Pop also comes with a Trekkies™-branded dry-erase marker that is color matched with the character’s uniform, enabling collectors to add their favorite quotes for each character.

Q-Pops will be constructed of high-quality PVC and will be offered in an open edition. They will also retail for the unheard-of low price of just $19.95, making Trekkies™ Q-Pop Figures our most accessible statues to date.

"As a Star Trek fan I wanted to create a figurine that hit the sweet spot of the series and gave me a chance to add my favorite quotes," said Mohammad Haque, QMx Design Director and creator of the Trekkies™ line. “I wanted our Trekkies to be really cute, but also have a bit of wit, so they would appeal to collectors of all ages.”

“When QMx was granted a license to produce Star Trek collectibles, we all felt like we’d been given a sacred trust,” said QMx CEO Andy Gore. “We want to create awesome stuff with innovative and unique twists. We want to create products people will prize. That’s the only way to do credit to one of sci fi’s greatest properties.”

Trekkies™ Q-Pop™ Kirk, Spock and Uhura are expected to be available in late Q2 2013 from QMx-authorized comic, collector and specialty stores around the country. They will also be available directly at www.qmxonline.com.
